Location: Evreux, France
Project Scope: Design, Fabrication and International Logistics of 4x Blast-Proof Units
Project Overview:
We recently managed the design, fabrication and complex loading sequence of a series of Specialised Blast Proof Containers destined for a major pharmaceutical facility in Evreux, France.
This project was a technically demanding build that required precision engineering and high-level logistical co-ordination. The task was to create a modular, blast-resistant environment capable of housing automated machinery for the production of Ventolin Inhalers. Following the successful installation of the Line 1 containers in 2024, our team was commissioned to deliver four additional units to support the expansion of Lines 2 and 3.
From the initial design phase, the focus was on safety and seamless integration. These containers are not merely shells; they are sophisticated "Gassing" and "Processing" hubs designed to interface directly with the client's main facility via complex conveyor belt assemblies.
How The Project Came Together:
The project was structured around the specific functional requirements of the inhaler production line, with a phased delivery to align with the client's readiness and installation schedule.
Phase 1: Gassing Containers (Lines 2 & 3): Measuring 6m long by 4.3m wide and weighing 12 tonnes empty, these units are engineered to house the critical machinery that fills the inhalers. Getting the structural details right was essential, as these units must safely contain the gassing process while maintaining connection to the main facility conveyor. The first of these units is currently being shipped, with the second scheduled to follow in three weeks.
Phase 2: Processing & Dispensing Containers: The second phase focused on significantly larger units at 10m in length. These feature 1-metre bolt-on side extensions to accommodate the end customer's heavy-duty dispensing and processing machines. With a total weight of approximately 24 tonnes, these units are shipped as separate components to be integrated on-site.
Throughout the process, the primary challenge was maintaining the structural integrity required for blast-proofing while managing the "Out of Gauge" (OOG) dimensions for internal transit. Every weld and connection point was scrutinised to ensure the units could withstand internal pressures while providing a safe, durable environment for high-speed pharmaceutical automation.

"The Evreux project represents a significant milestone in modular pharmaceutical infrastructure. Delivering blast-proof integrity on this scale, particularly with the 10-metre processing units and their bolt-on extensions, required a rigorous approach to both structural engineering and logistical planning. By phasing the delivery and coordinating the modular components, we’ve ensured that Lines 2 and 3 can be integrated into the facility with the same precision and safety standards we established for Line 1.
The execution of this project showcases the sheer scale, expertise, and minute attention to engineering detail required by Landguard Engineering to deliver such a complex commission. From the structural reinforcement needed for a 24-tonne unit to the logistical precision of shipping 'out of gauge' cargo across the channel, every stage reflects our commitment to technical excellence and high-stakes safety."

Delivering Results:
The deployment of these four containers to Evreux is the result of meticulous planning and a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical industries safety requirements. What began as a complex engineering brief has been delivered as a robust, fully integrated system that allows our customer to scale their production safely.
From the early fabrication stages to the final securing of the 24-tonne units for shipping, our team has been hands-on at every turn. These containers now provide a secure, long-term solution for the production of essential medical products, built to the highest international standards.
